Are non-EU Citizen Family Members protected by EU Law?

Non-EU citizen Family Members of EU Citizens are protected under EU Law, and (with conditions) can enjoy the same free movement rights of EU citizens.

One part to remember is that the protection is not for all EU family members: the law gives rights to the the spouse, civil-partner, (or partner in a long-term durable relationship duly attested), and also to the child under the age of 21 (or over the age of 21 if dependant on their EU parent or non-EU-spouse-of-an-EU-parent), in addition to the parents and grandparents (and even great-great-great grandparents if you are so lucky!) of EU citizens’ and their partners if they are dependant on the EU citizen.
